Dear Fellow Dog Lover,

While this might appear to be the launch of a new product, longtime Best Breed customers will know that this is actually the relaunch of a formula that was very popular for us for about a decade beginning in the late 90s. In 1997 we found a supplier of extremely high quality catfish in the South. It was an amazing source of fish that had very little odor and was high in protein and low in ash (ash is a primary metric for measuring the quality of meats – typically the lower the better). We developed and launched the “Catfish with Vegetables” formula with great success. Dogs loved the taste and their parents loved that it did not have that “fishy” smell we all know about.  It was a unique protein source that was truly high quality. After about 13 years of being on the market, we started receiving shipments of catfish that were not up to our standards, so we made the painful decision to remove the catfish from the formula and replaced it with salmon. After about a decade later, we reconnected with that same supplier and learned that the ingredient we were buying back in the 90s was available again and the issues we were having before had been fixed with new management. With great excitement we took the original formula and created “Freshwater Recipe.”

Freshwater Recipe offers a blend of high quality protein from catfish and whitefish, non-GMO healthful grains and vegetables. The formula provides lots of omega-3 fatty acids to help reduce inflammation in the body and improve skin and coat health. It also contains glucosamine from natural sources and probiotics for gut health.

Lastly, like all of our diets, the Freshwater Recipe is formulated without low-grade ingredients that are harder for your dog to digest. Some of these ingredients include animal by-product meal, cheap fillers, any sort of gluten (e.g., corn gluten), and artificial preservatives, flavors, and colors.
